Diets-What is a diet? And which one is best for you?

Diets…which one is best for me?

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” -Hippocrates

Confusing isn’t it! Who to believe and should I eat grains or no meat just plant food…ughhh!

Ever feel overwhelmed by all the diet information. Nutrition is now being recognized as playing a significant piece in preventing chronic diseases. This is the good news, you have more control over your health than what you realize! My goal is to give the healing potential back to the guru in YOU!!

We have so much information available to us today than ever before. I am excited to see that anyone can access information from the internet to understand how best to nourish their family. My family’s journey began over 18 years ago when I was desperate to help my son who was on four prescription drugs at the age of four. I was reading every book I could at that time to get an understanding of how to best care for my family. I grew up on a farm, I churned butter, I pulled carrots and ate them directly out of the garden, how did I get so derailed?

If you are feeling overwhelmed by all the information out there, then maybe stepping back and considering a few of the suggestions I provide you with today will help you get back into taking action by cleaning up your present sourcing of foods, or drink cleaner water. I want to empower you to eat well and take care of yourself, your loved ones and our precious planet, Earth that nurtures us back. When was the last time you got out into nature or walked on the grass, bare footed? And it doesn’t cost you a dime.

Lets briefly talk about how to take care of the most precious thing we have while on this planet “our beautiful bodies”. We truly are spiritual beings having an earthly experience! Let’s enjoy it! Listening to your body is the first step to honoring the power you have within.

Nourishing our intelligent body is an important beginning and can be simple. We all have learned so much about these amazing bodies, yet know so little, and have still much to learn! Let’s explore some more ideas about your choices in nourishment and sustaining health. I really don’t like to use the word “diet” and prefer to speak of our foods as nourishment, if they are true foods and not “frankenfoods” then they are nourishing to our bodies.

One diet does not work for everyone, this is important to understand. I do believe we need to eat nutrient dense, whole foods, that have been prepared properly. Eating real food, as close to the form it was originally grown or raised in. Prepared in a way that preserves or even enhances the nutritional value of the food. So many of the ways we prepare food or food is prepared for us, damages the nutrients in the food. Eating raw is not necessary but we can prepare foods in such a way to gain the absolute most benefit. I will talk more about this in future blogs. There are so many wonderful foods and it really comes back to bio-individual.

Bio-individuality means each one of us is uniquely designed! What works for me might not work for you, and something entirely different might work for your spouse. That’s why most diets will work for some and not for others. We also need to look at how your body is using the food you’re eating. You can be eating the most perfectly, pristine foods but if you’re not digesting it properly or absorbing it fully, then it will be necessary for you to eat more to get the same nutritional value. There are a lot of people in this country that don’t realize they are truly malnourished.

Another consideration is different physiological functions, such as organ damage or removal, missing gallbladder, appendix, reproductive organs etc. This is where each person needs a customized nutrition plan that will yield the best results for you. For example if you already have a stressed condition within the digestion process, then adding more of certain foods can compound the burden on an already stressed organ. The goal is to help remove the blockages in your bioregulatory flow system, which is made up of three interdependent systems:

  1. Digestive System
  2. NeuroEndocrine System
  3. Filtration/Drainage System

These three beautiful systems are designed to keep the body in a flowing state. If you have blockages in any of these systems, then again the body may not be able to uptake all the wonderful nutrients you are working so hard to provide. How do we find out where the blockages are? By taping energetically into the bio-field of your body. I consider that asking the body what it needs at this time is important information to gather before we decide on what nourishing foods are best for you.

Lifestyle is significant! How we handle stress impacts our bodies! We all will face stress on this planet and have different issues going on in our lives. Stress can be the biggest road block in digestion and nutritional absorption. For you it might be a new family member and sleep is a little deprived, this will have an effect on your digestion process. Maybe you have changed jobs, moving or having relationship issues, addictions (food, drugs, exercise, tobacco, alcohol), recent surgeries, lack or inability to exercise, all these things need to be taken into consideration.

It is a “process” but recognizing your body’s need is the first step!

Today there seems to be this disconnect first with our beautiful bodies, secondly with our inner guru, thirdly with our planet, and lastly with others. Disconnects leads to dis-ease. Our bodies are communicating with us all the time. Our job is to be listening, to identify what it’s asking for, and to respond appropriately. Are you listening to your body? Do you see symptoms as something you need to cover up and stop? Or do you see them as information given to you from the innate council you have within?

I hope you can see that nourishing food plays a significant role in sustaining your health, your loved ones and the community at large. What you eat becomes not just part of your body but part of your emotions, and part of your thoughts. These bodies know how to heal if we give them what they need. My deep desire is to educate you on the “design of the body”, assist you in collecting information from your beautiful body and guide you in deciding what foods are nourishing to your unique design.

The World Health Organization defines health as: “A state of complete physical, mental and social (I consider this spiritual) well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
